nota: Cal esmentar les excepcions següents: la preposició 'per' es tradueix en anglès per 'by' en els girs 'per mar' i 'per terra' (by sea i by land) i per 'along' quan s'usa davant el nom d'una via (carrer, camí, carretera, etc.). Exemples: En el segle divuit era perillós viatjar per mar || It was dangerous to travel by sea in the eighteenth century; Anaven amb cotxe per la carretera || They were driving along the highway.
4. [per + infinitiu, que denota causa, bescanvi o preu] for + (gerundi)
Em van multar per aparcar en pas de peatons - They fined me for parking in a crosswalk
Us donarem 600 euros per pintar la casa - We'll give you 600 euros for painting our house
nota: Com a regla pràctica podem dir que, a grans trets, quan en castellà la preposició seria 'para', en anglès volem l'infinitiu 'to', sense cap preposició; en canvi, quan en castellà la preposició seria 'por', en anglès volem la preposició 'for' més el gerundi.
